Narayan AmmachchiICT infrastructure developer Ascenty has begun constructing five more data centers in Latin American countries, namely Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Colombia.
The Sao Paulo-based company set aside US$274 million for the projects and expects all the facilities to be up and running within the next two years.
“The goal is to provide a connectivity ecosystem in which customers can access all cloud providers, content companies such as streaming, social networks, among others, as well as use the connection with the main telecommunications companies,” stated the company in a press release.
All five data centers will be powered by renewable energy and aim to be carrier neutral.
A joint venture between Digital Realty and Brookfield Infrastructure, Ascenty’s data centers are interconnected by 5,000 km of a proprietary fiber-optic network.
Although Ascenty is only 12 years old, it already runs more than 32 data centers in Latin America. Most of the company’s centers are in Brazil. In 2019, it unveiled Latin America’s largest data center in Paulínia, an outlying district in São Paulo.
Ascenty’s revenue has been growing at a staggering 30% rate annually in the past five years, with most of the large telecom and cloud vendors continuing to buy space in its data facilities.
