Canada’s Konrad Group Launches New Delivery Center in Costa Rica

Canadian technology development firm Konrad Group is bulking up in Costa Rica by launching a new delivery center in Tres Ríos, the capital city of La Unión Canton in Cartago Province.
The Costa Rican office will develop software primarily for the company’s U.S. and Canadian clients, which include several top multinationals, such as McDonald’s, Coca Cola, MTV, and Paypal.

According to reports, the company has already launched a hunt for computer engineers and software developers with expertise in mobile and web applications. Konrad will also hire dozens of fresh college graduates, who will undergo lengthy training program before being assigned to projects.
The company already has 40 employees in Costa Rica, but will add another 85 people to its team over the coming months.
According to Spanish news reports, company officials said the decision was not based on cutting costs, but was due to a hunt for better human talent. Costa Rica’s time zone alignment with Canada was another reason for the expansion.
Costa Rica’s technology service sector has been growing at an admirable pace, with nearly a dozen foreign firms expanding operation to the Central American country in recent months. According to the country’s investment promotion agency, CINDE, nearly 140 digital service firms are operating in the country, and have created 50,000 direct jobs and 17,000 indirect.
Delighted by the growing foreign investment in the sector, Costa Rica says it would henceforth focus on graduating more students in information technology.
“Encouraging more people to study information technology will allow us to increase the job opportunities companies like Konrad Group are generating in our country,” reported El Financiero, quoting Jorge Sequeira, director general of the Coalition for Development Initiatives (CINDE).
