HGS to Create 300 WAHA Jobs in New Brunswick

Indian BPO provider Hinduja Global Services (HGS) says it will create 300 jobs in the Canadian province of New Brunswick over the next four years, after the local government agreed to pay the company CAD$1.19 million (US$925,691) in payroll rebate.

Officials estimate that the jobs, which are expected to be work-at-home agent (WAHA) roles, will generate an additional CAD$3.5 million in provincial tax revenue over four years. The rebates will be performance-based and distributed to the company annually, once it has created and maintained jobs during the claim year.

The call center provider hit upon the idea of building a network of home-based customer service agents early last year when it toured New Brunswick. There were reports in local newspapers about HGS executives looking for dozens of employees in the province to train as WAHAs.

“After conducting a successful tour of northern New Brunswick communities in 2017, we were extremely pleased with the results,” said Ross Duff, senior vice-president of operations for HGS Canada, in a press release.

HGS began Canadian operations in Charlottetown in 1996, later expanding with a second office in Prince Edward Island, and then three more in Nova Scotia. Today the company runs dozens of delivery centers across the country, including Pembroke, Timmins, Thunder Bay, North Bay, Belleville and Barrie.
