Ibex Global Unveils New Call Center in Portmore; Its Fifth in Jamaica

Ibex Global continues to bet big time on Jamaica, with the nearshore BPO provider unveiling its fifth contact center in the island.

The new facility, spread across 80,000 square feet within the GTECH Park in Portmore, will have seats for more than 1,200 call center agents, according to the company’s statement.

The expansion takes the company’s total headcount in the country to over 6,500, according to the Jamaican government’s numbers.

The new office will almost double the company’s headcount in Portmore, where it set up its first Jamaican call center seven years ago.

A small town 15 miles from the capital Kingston, Portmore is home to a large number of college graduates.

The Washington DC-based BPO provider arrived in Jamaica in 2016. Since then, it has launched a new call center in the island almost every year.

The rest of Ibex’s Jamaican call centers are located in Ocho Rios and Kingston.

Aubyn Hill, Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce of Jamaica, who was present at the inauguration, said the BPO sector had grown almost 20% in the past two years despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

The BPO industry, along with the digital services sector, employ more than 60,000 people in the country, the minister said.
