Kirk Laughlin Among Key Speakers At Curacao Smart Investment Summit

Kirk Laughlin, Managing Director of Nearshore Americas, will speak at the Curacao Smart Investment Summit, which takes place November 1 and 2, 2018.

The two-day event, will feature panel discussions and interviews with the digital industry experts from around the world, including Professor Jan Rotmans, one of the first scientists to develop integrated climate assessment models.

Rotmans will speak on how Curacao can transform itself into a smart nation and Laughlin will cover how to develop smart people.

Laughlin is one of the experts on the knowledge services industry in Americas, having spoken at numerous BPO industry conferences across the region over the past decade.

Other speakers include Bram Reinders, Founder and Chairman of the Global Smart City and Community Coalition, and Marten Kaevats, National Digital Adviser for the Estonian government.

A picturesque island with dozens of popular beach resorts, Curacao has the highest per capita income in all of the Caribbean. These days, the island is pursuing a goal of attracting investments from information technology companies as part of a plan to diversify away from tourism and petroleum.

It has launched what it calls an ‘open arms’ policy with a special focus on bringing digital companies onto the island.

At the summit, the country’s investment promotion agency CINEX will announce a partnership agreement with Venture Cafe, a US-based not-for-profit organization that incubates young entrepreneurs and provides workspaces for startups and small digital companies, according to Curacao Chronicle.
