NTT Data Acquires Conexos, Gaining Access to Brazil’s Commodity Sector

Japan’s technology giant NTT Data has acquired Brazil-based software vendor Conexos, gaining access to several deep-pocketed clients in Brazil’s lucrative commodity sector.

Conexos’ global trade management (GTM) software is highly popular with Brazilian companies involved in exporting and importing goods.

The software helps companies comply with foreign trade regulations, providing visibility into customs clearance, currency exchange, and logistics. It also calculates the potential taxes that companies may have to pay on their trade transactions.

Analysts say that Brazil’s taxation system is complex, even for domestic companies. Conexos’ software automates the compliance process through the synergistic collaboration of more than 65 integrated robots, reducing the need for manual intervention and eliminating potential human error.

NTT Data plans to create a new IT platform for traders by augmenting Conexos’ existing software with its own cutting-edge solutions. The platform will be tailored to the specific needs of NTT Data’s customers and can be easily integrated into SAP through its existing API structure.

“We will tailor the software to the specific needs of our customers,” said Norbert Rotter, CEO of NTT DATA Business

Conexos brings 300 customers to NTT Data, according to the Japanese firm, which did not disclose the purchase price.

NTT Data is not new to Latin America. It made its first foray into the region in 2011 when it bought Italy’s Value Team SpA, which operates in several countries in Latin America. It is already running delivery centers in Argentina, Costa Rica, and Chile as well.

Its biggest expansion in the region came in 2016 when it purchased Dell’s services unit for around $3 billion.

The Japanese firm controls a majority of shares in Everis as well. The Madrid-based IT/BPO provider has extensive operations throughout Latin America.
