Spanish BPO GSS Experiences Rapid Growth in Colombia

Spanish call center firm GSS Grupo Covisian is reportedly expanding at high speed in Colombia, increasing its headcount from 800 to 1,500 in the last 6 months.

The BPO provider, according to Colombian news outlet Portafolio, is hoping Latin America can contribute more than 70% of its revenue in the next few years.

GSS arrived in Colombia following its Italian parent Grupo Covisian’s acquisition of a local call center operator Avanza in November last year. Avanza added 4,500 employees, in addition to providing service to numerous clients in the region’s key sectors, such as energy, financial, and telecommunications.

Today, the global headcount for GSS has exceeded 22,000 and is serving more than 150 clients. At the heart of its offerings is the analytical software called ‘Sparta’ that helps companies to streamline their operations with greater control on planning as well as execution.

GSS came to Latin America in 2007 following in the footsteps of its Spanish clients. Its first LatAm delivery center sprang up in the Peruvian capital Lima. Today, its Peruvian workforce has grown to 5,000 people, making the company the second-largest employer in the country’s contact center industry.  It seems GSS is hoping to replicate its Peruvian model in Colombia.

The rapid rise of GSS comes amid reports that the Andean country’s BPO industry would create 15,000 jobs over the next six months.
