Stefanini Takes Controlling Stake in TecCloud

Global digital services vendor Stefanini has acquired a controlling 60% stake in Brazilian data center operator TecCloud in a move aimed at branching out into cloud services.

TecCloud, a subsidiary of Brazilian business conglomerate Correa da Silva, owns three tier-3 data centers in Rio Grande do Sul state.

The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

In a statement, Stefanini’s IT director Rogério Vinícius said the company would use TecCloud’s infrastructure for developing cloud solutions.

“At first, we wanted to just implement a technological refresh, but it ended up making room for a new business, the cloud service,” Vinícius said. “With this initiative, we started to work even more with service solutions (SaaS), and we are preparing a cloud offering that we intend to announce to the market soon.”

The public cloud segment in Brazil is growing by 35% annually and is set to reach a value of US$6.5 billion over the next four years, according to technology research firm IDC.

In August 2015, São Paulo-based Stefanini acquired a 40% stake in another of Da Silva Group’s subsidiaries, Saque e Pague, a multi-service network based in Porto Alegre.
