Three Latin American airports were listed among the world’s top 100 once more, with Singapore’s Changi Airport keeping the number one spot.
Skytrax’s 2023 World Airport Awards ranked Colombia’s El Dorado International Aiport, Ecuador’s Quito International Airport and Costa Rica’s Juan Santamara International Airport among the 100 best in the world.
The ranking is built by Skytrax’s polling of a global pool of air travelers, asking them about their experiences from check-in through departure and beyond.
El Dorado Airport (located in Bogota) is the largest airport terminal in all of South America, handling more than 36 million passengers annually. Above all, the airport is vital to the Colombian economy, accounting for almost half of the country’s air traffic.
However, El Dorado slipped two places in the index this year, compared to its 35th place in 2022.

Located in the town of Tababela, about 11 miles east of the Ecuadorian capital, Quito Airport is a major hub for the region’s two largest airlines: Avianca and LATAM. It is the only airport in the entire Western Hemisphere with a 5-star rating by Skytrax for its terminal.
Despite significant traffic, Ecuador was unable to defend its main airline TAME, which was grounded in 2020 when the COVID epidemic rendered it bankrupt.
Costa Rica’s Santamara Airport competes for travelers with Liberia Airport, which is only a few miles away. Even then, it made the Skytrax index.
